Three Tips for Maintaining Your Glass Shower Screen

One question we are commonly asked at Prompt Glass after a successful installation is how our customers can properly maintain their shower screens. So here we have listed some cleaning and maintenance tips that will help ensure that your glass screens remain durable and gleaming in elegance.

Regular Cleaning is a Must

Just like with everything else, cleaning your glass shower screen regularly is important. This will not only avoid too much grime build up, but it will also make it easier for you to remove soap scum and other stains. You can do this routinely at least once a week to make sure that mineral deposits from water and chemicals from shampoo and other bathroom products are removed, as this can affect the durability of the glass over time.

Aside from the shower screen, you should also schedule a regular thorough clean-up of the entire bathroom.

Try to Keep the Glass Screen Dry

This may sound ironic since shower screens are typically installed in shower areas, which are usually exposed to water. But this does not mean you can’t keep them dry for the other times that the area is not in use.

We recommend that you rinse the glass with water after using the shower area, and wipe it dry with a soft cloth or chamois cloth. Ventilation will also help with preventing moisture, so you can turn on an exhaust fan or leave the shower open to allow the glass to dry.

This may seem to be too much of a hassle especially when you’re in a rush, but these little things will save you from the possible long hours of scrubbing grime off the shower glass.

Use Appropriate Cleaning Products

While we provide durable glass bath screens at Prompt Glass, it is inevitable that the use of harsh chemical substances for cleaning the screens can cause damage to the glass. For this reason, if you are going to use cleaning products from the supermarket, make sure you pick one that is appropriate for glass shower screens. Alternatively, you can use an equal-part mixture of water and apple cider vinegar for cleaning the glass.

In addition to this, use a clean, soft cloth for scrubbing the glass to avoid scratching the surface. A sponge can also get the job done, as long as it does not contain other chemicals that are inappropriate for glass cleaning. Warm water works best for softening the grime before applying the cleaning product. After cleaning the surface, you can rinse the glass with clean water and dry it with a squeegee.
